Shumen chicken

 

           Black Shumen chicken is an old breed of chicken originating in Shumen region of Bulgaria. In the middle of the 20th century it was crossed with Minorca and Rhode Island red chickens. Nowadays it is considered to be a rare breed. It is kept by Bulgarian Poultry Institute in Stara Zagora and from a few Bulgarian breeders- members of the Bulgarian Association of Poultry Breeders.

Maturing: early maturing;

Plumage color:L black and blue;

Ring size: 18/16

Egg laying capacity: 150-180 almost white eggs per year with 50-55 g egg weight.

Body weight: rooster - 2,0 kg (4,4 pounds), hen - 1,5 kg (3,3 pounds).
